Title:   Introduction to Hand Papermaking

Course Description:

This course is designed for students who have never worked with handmade paper, as well as those students who would like to increase their knowledge about hand papermaking. The basics of both Eastern and Western sheetforming will be taught. Students will make both thin, Japanese-style papers as well as thick, Western-style sheets. Various processes will be covered, from cooking and beating plant material to beating pulp "half stuff" and recycling paper scraps. Students will also explore pigmenting fiber and learn about ways to make their own papermaking equipment, access suppliers and set up their own basic papermaking studios.
-This course is not open to Community or Alumni audit enrollment
-This course has a materials fee of $120
-This course is a 16-hour workshop
