Title:   Sculpting Small Metal Relieves: Chasing and Repousse

Course Number:      MTL 0052N1
Campus: Boston-Fenway
Room: TBA

Course Description:

Scuplting metal itself is  a wonderful way to create relieves. A technique called chasing and repousse where you work both sides of the metal will allow you to sculpt small-scale pieces that can be worn. The course is an exploration of what can be made by simple embossing, pushing and stretching non-ferrous metals. Interesting textures, abstract forms, geometric shapes and realistic imagery can be developed - even things with very fine detail can be achieved.
This is a direct process with only a hammer, finely shaped chasing tools and pitch bowl used to form exciting wearable works of art. The feeling of the metal changes when it is worked - not only does it have more visual interest, but it carries a part of its sculptor in it.
