Course Description:

This course will cover the development of children's emotions, and the development of children's social relationships with peers and adults (teachers, etc.), within school settings. The course will focus on children ages birth through age 12.
Emotional development topics will include: how emotions develop; purpose of emotions; emotion expression; emotion regulation; how to help children who have poor emotion regulation; etc.
Social development topics will include: how children develop a sense of "self" and "other"; play; friendships; peer relationships; development of gender identity and gender differences; aggression and fighting; bullying; altruism and helping behavior; how to encourage altruism and cooperation in school settings; programs for social-emotional growth; etc.
