Tufts Summer Session for High Schoolers Course & Workshop List

Summer 2018

The list below represents all undergraduate and pre-college courses open to high school students in the Tufts Summer Session for High Schoolers program. Summer Session for High Schoolers is a non-residential program that offers high school students the opportunity to enroll in Tufts University courses. All Courses are available for credit, while Workshops are not offered for credit.

Rising High School Juniors (Class of 2020) and Seniors (Class of 2019) are eligible for all workshops and courses listed. Rising High School Sophomores (Class of 2021) are eligible for all Studio Art Courses & Workshops. Note that courses not listed below are not open to students in this program.

A short application is required before high school students can be enrolled. Apply early to assure your placement in the courses you want!

Course Description:

This course is designed to improve your powers of perception, expose you to a wide range of techniques and methods of drawing and to help you find your personal voice in the medium. We will investigate a variety of problems and possibilities in drawing through the exploration of a wide range of processes, materials and techniques. Issues of mark-making, process, control, and accident will be emphasized. We will experiment with the expressive potential of line, tone and mood to explore a variety of graphic techniques. A goal of this intensive will be for you to develop foundational skills as well as personal styles in drawing. We also will investigate line, shape, shading, value, scale, structure, space, composition and perspective while working from still lives, interiors, landscapes and objects from the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Level: introductory.
 
Any materials necessary for the first class meeting will be communicated to enrolled students by the instructor in advance. Otherwise, materials and supplies will be covered in the first class meeting.
