Stormy weather

. Dust-laden clouds swirl above the north polar region of Mars at the end of local summer. Clouds that appear white consist mainly of water ice, while the orange-brown clouds contain dust. These images were taken at two-hour intervals from the Mars Global Surveyor on 30 June 1999. Storms similar to those shown here continued throughout the month of July and into August.
