BECK, COACH MORWICK HONORED FOR INDOOR ACHIEVEMENTS
BY USTFCCCA
MEDFORD -- The Tufts University women's indoor track &
field team's superb 2007-08 season resulted in regional honors for
senior co-captain Catherine Beck (Brookline, NH) and Coach
Kristen Morwick. The United State Track & Field and Cross Country
Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) named Beck the New England Indoor Athlete
of the Year for the third straight season, and Morwick was tabbed as New
England Indoor Coach of the Year. The honors were announced on
March 12 prior to the NCAA Championship meet.
Beck, the New England Indoor Athlete of the Year in 2006
and 2007 as well, competed in her 11th NCAA championship meet this year.
She ran the anchor leg for the national champion distance medley relay
and also took third in the mile. She won the mile and placed second in
the 3,000 meters in leading Tufts to the New England Division III
women's title.
Five members of Morwick's Tufts team qualified for the
NCAA Championships overall this season. The Jumbos went on to finish
sixth as a team at Nationals, with the DMR winning the second NCAA of
Morwick's eight-year Jumbo tenure.
