BECK, CRISPIN TO RUN IN 1,500 METERS AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP MEET
MEDFORD -- The Tufts University women's outdoor track & field team
features two of the four runners in the nation who posted automatic
qualifying times for the 1,500 meter race at the NCAA Championships
coming up this week. Senior tri-captain Sarah Crispin (Auburn,
ME/Edward Little) and junior Cat Beck (Brookline,
NH/Hollis-Brookline) are entered in the event, with the trials
occurring on Thursday (May 24) at 4:35 pm CST and the finals taking
place on Saturday (May 26) at 1:30 pm. The University of
Wisconsin-Oshkosh is hosting the meet from Thursday through Saturday.
Both Beck and Crispin ran two of the four fastest 1,500 times in the
country for Division III at the All-New England Championships on May 12.
Beck finished in 4 minutes, 31.28 seconds and Crispin had a time of
4:31.77. Ironically, it's another pair of teammates in front of them
nationally with Wisconsin-Platteville senior Marcia Taddy's time of
4:22.56 as the #1 seed entering the meet, and her sophomore teammate
Emma Dreis #2 with a 4:28.19 time. Beck was the national runner-up in
the 1,500 meters last season with a 4:29.08 time.
Beck also qualified to compete in the 5,000 meters with a time of
17:03.03 in the first meet of the season at Tufts back on March 31. The
5K runs just a few hours after the 1,500 final on Saturday at 4:20 pm.
She was ninth in the race last year, crossing the finish line in
17:40.51.
