ELEVEN FROM WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD ON ALL-NESCAC TEAM
MEDFORD – With their performances at the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) championship meet hosted by Colby College on April 30, 11 members of the Tufts University Women's Track & Field team gained All-Conference recognition. Honors were awarded to those athletes who finished among the top three in their events.
Junior Rachel Bloom (Sharon, MA/Sharon) was a four-time recipient, earning honors for her performances in the 100 Meter Dash, the 200 Meter Dash and for the 4x100 and 4x400 Meter Relays. She was second in the 100 with a time of 13.14 seconds and second in the 200 at 26.89 seconds. The 4x1 ran third in 50.17 seconds and the 4x4 won the NESCAC title in 4 minutes, 5.75 seconds.
Five Jumbos in all were honored in multiple events. Freshman Catherine Beck (Brookline, NH/Hollis-Brookline) was third in the 1,500 Meter Run in 4:47.04 and was part of the 4x800 Meter Relay that won the conference championship with a 9:26.04 time. Sophomore
Sarah Crispin (Auburn, ME/Edward Little) won the 1,500 Meters in 4:45.60 and was part of the championship 4x8.
Sophomore MacKenzie Rawcliffe (Winterport, ME/Hampden Academy) took third in the 100 Meter Hurdles (16.37 seconds) and ran the third leg of the 4x4. Senior
Ayako Sawanobori (Arcadia, CA/Arcadia) ran third in the 4x1 relay and second in the 4x4.
Individuals gaining All-NESCAC props for their participation in the relays included freshman
Kaleigh Fitzpatrick (Lynnfield, MA/Lynnfield) and sophomore Jess Mactas (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) in the 4x1. Sophomore
Kate Makai (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield), Senior tri-captain Katie Sheedy (Reading, MA/Reading), in the 4x8 and freshman
Anna Shih (Pittsford, NY/Harley School) also in the 4x8.
In the throwing events, senior Jessica Gauthier (Saugus, MA/Saugus) was third in the Discus with a distance of 40.6 meters.
Coach Kristen Morwick's Jumbos placed second at the conference championship meet with 126.5 points.
