TROMBLY NAMED ECAC DIVISON III TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

MEDFORD – After a versatile performance at the Husky Spring Open hosted by Northeastern University on March 30, Tufts University sophomore Jessica Trombly (Nashua, NH/Bishop Guertin) has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference's (ECAC) Division III Track Athlete of the Week. Athlete of the Week awards are given in several sports to athletes from among the ECAC's membership of over 200 schools on the East Coast.

Trombly competed in five events during the day: the 200 Meters, the 100 Meter High Hurdles, the 4x100 Meter Relay, the 4x400 Meter Relay and in the Shot Put. Head Coach Kristen Morwick is preparing her to compete in the Heptathlon later in the season, and her effort at the Husky Open was a promising start.

In a field of Division I, II and III competitors, Trombly won the 200 Meters with a time of 26.33 seconds. She took fourth place in the 100 Meter High Hurdles, finishing in 16.25 seconds, tops among non-Division I racers. As the second leg in the 4x100 Meter Relay, she helped the Jumbos place second behind Northeastern with a time of 50.34 seconds. She was then the anchor on the 4x400 Meter Relay team that was third with a 4:03.75 time. To cap off her busy day, she placed 17th in the Shot Put with best heave of 29-feet flat (8.84 meters).

During the indoor season, Trombly was third in the 200 Meters, third in the 55 Meter Hurdles and third with the 4x400 Meter Relay at the New England Division III Championships on February 16 at Southern Maine. She is also a starter on the Tufts soccer team in the fall.

Trombly and the rest of the women's track & field team compete at Bates College on Saturday (April 6).
