MEDFORD -- With two free throws in the last minute of the game at
Connecticut College on Saturday afternoon, Tufts University women's
basketball junior Colleen Hart (Needham, MA/Needham) became
the ninth player in the team's 38-year history to score 1,000
points in her career.
Hart is the first Jumbo to reach 1,000 points since Jessica
Powers (2002-06) did so in December 2005. Hart is just the second
Tufts player to accomplish the milestone during her junior season.
Emily Goodman was the first during the 2001-02 campaign.
In her first season with the Jumbos, Hart scored 341 points in
2007-08 and was selected New England Small College Athletic
Conference (NESCAC) Rookie of the Year. She added 325 points as a
sophomore last year, when she was named to the All-NESCAC First
Team. This season, she leads the conference in scoring with 335
points. With 1,001 career points in 77 games, she's averaging an
even 13.0 points per game for the Jumbos.
The all-time leader in three-pointers at Tufts with 167 and
counting, Hart also set the single-season mark for three-pointers
with her 58th at Wesleyan on Friday night. She leads the conference
by 16 in that category. Hart is hitting her threes at a very
successful .457 rate (58/127) this season. She is also the best free
throw shooter in team history, making 134 of 164 career attempts for
a .817 percentage.
Under Coach Carla Berube, Tufts has a remarkable 66-11 record
during Hart's three seasons with the team. During this time, the
Jumbos made the first two NCAA Tournament appearances in team
history and twice have put together school-record 12-game winning
streaks. Tufts is currently 18-2 overall and ranked #10 in the
D3Hoops.com national poll.
Hart was the D3Hoops.com Northeast Rookie of the Year in 2008,
was an All-Northeast Region selection by D3Hoops.com last year, and
was among the website's Preseason All-Americans this year. She is a
two-time NESCAC Player of the Week this season, and currently leads
the NESCAC in minutes played as well, averaging 34.55 per game.
