MEDFORD
-- Junior guard Colleen Hart (Needham, MA) of the Tufts
University women's basketball team has been voted as one of the five
best players in New England by the New England Women's Basketball
Association (NEWBA).
Membership in NEWBA is open to all Division III head coaches from
the region. Their votes determine the annual year-end awards. Hart
was joined on the All-Region First Team by Babson forward Nicole
Wurdeman, Husson forward Shelby Bradford, Western Connecticut center
Melissa Teel, and Brandeis guard Jessica Chapin. Teel was selected
as the region's Player of the Year.
Hart was named to the New England Small College Athletic Conference
(NESCAC) All-Conference First Team after grabbing Conference Player
of the Week honors three times this season. She helped lift the
Jumbos to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, where they were
dropped by Kean University. For the season, the guard averaged 17.3
points, 2.4 assists and 4.3 rebounds per contest.
