MEDFORD
-- Junior forward Julia Baily (Farmington, CT/Miss Porter's)
and sophomore point guard Colleen Hart (Needham, MA/Needham)
of the Tufts University women's basketball teams were voted on to
the D3Hoops.com All-Northeast Region Team for the 2008-09 season.
Tufts and Babson College were the only schools with two players
among the 15 honored on three All-Region teams. Baily and Hart
earned third team honors.
The regional Rookie of the Year last season, Hart was recognized by
D3Hoops for the second straight season. She averaged 12 points per
game with a team-best 53 three-pointers on 150 attempts (35.3
percent). With 115 assists (4.3 per game) and 70 turnovers in 27
games, she had an excellent 1.64 assists to turnovers ratio. She hit
34 of 41 free throws for a 82.9 percentage and led Tufts with 49
steals. She also had 4.2 rebounds per game as a 5'4" guard.
Following the graduation of All-Region first team selection Khalilah
Ummah, Baily helped fill the void. She led the Jumbos in scoring and
rebounding with 12.9 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. She also led
the team with 76 free throw attempts and shot a solid 71.1 percent
from the line (54/76). Baily was also a defensive presence with 31
steals and 19 blocked shots.
Coach Carla Berube's Tufts team earned its second straight NCAA
Tournament appearance. They suffered a disappointing second-round
loss to the College of New Jersey in a game that they led by 12 in
the second half. The Lions went on to the "Final Four." Hart led
Tufts with 16 points in their 80-70 first-round win at Moravian.
Baily's double-double (14 and 10) paced the Jumbos in their 57-55
loss to TCNJ.
Both All-New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)
selections in 2009, Hart and Baily return to the Jumbos next season.
