KHALILAH UMMAH, COLLEEN HART EARN D3HOOPS.COM REGIONAL AWARDS
MEDFORD -- On the heels of their amazing run in the NCAA
Tournament, the Tufts women's basketball team has two players
prominently included in D3hoops.com's All-Northeast Region teams
announced today. Senior co-captain Khalilah Ummah (Litchfield,
ME) is one of five players named to the First team, and Hart was
selected as the Rookie of the Year.
Sixteen players total were selected to the First, Second and
Third teams. Ummah, a forward who led the New England Small College Athletic
Conference (NESCAC) with 10.0 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game, and
also scored at a 12.9 clip, was the conference's Player of the Year
and Defensive Player of the Year. She's the only league member on
the D3hoops First team. Hart, who established herself as one of the best
first-year players in the country, played 34.5 minutes per game as
the team's court leader. The NESCAC Rookie of the Year averaged 11.4
points and 3.4 assists while shooting free throws and three-pointers
well.
Coach Carla Berube's Tufts team advanced to the NCAA Tournament
"Elite 8" with wins over Wheaton, Mount St. Mary and Mary
Washington. Tufts finished 26-4 and played in the NCAA's for the
first time, making it the best season in team history.
