GOODMAN NAMED NEWBA ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

MEDFORD - Tufts University sophomore center Emily Goodman (Briarcliff, NY/ Briarcliff Manor) earned the honor of Athete of the Week from the New England Women's Baksetball Association (NEWBA) for her efforts in two games during the week of Feb. 5-11.

Over the weekend Goodman averaged 22.5 points and 8.5 rebounds as the Jumbos went 1-1 in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play. Head Coach Janice Savitz's team won 75-64 against Williams on Friday (Feb. 9), and lost a close one to Middlebury, 67-69, on Saturday (Feb. 10). Against Williams, Goodman had a double-double with 10 boards and 23 points. Against Middlebury she pulled down 7 rebounds and had 22 points.

Goodman is averaging 18.1 and 8.4 rebounds per game in her second season at Tufts. Last year she was named NESCAC Rookie of the Year after averaging 17.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, and also recieved the honor of NEWBA Rookie of the Year. Goodman exploded at the beginning of the 2000-2001 season with a 31-point game against Johnson & Wales University and continues to lead the conference in scoring. She was also named NESCAC Player of the Week twice during the season.

Goodman looks to lead the Jumbos into the post-season with two essential games this weekend (Feb. 16-17) at home against Wesleyan and Connecticut College. Two wins would clinch a playoff spot for the 12-8 Jumbos.
