LEWISTON, Me. -- Visiting Tufts University encountered little resistance in rolling to a 3-0 defeat of Bates College Wednesday night in a NESCAC volleyball match. Winning for the eighth time in their past nine matches, the Jumbos (16-12, 5-3 NESCAC) won by game scores of 30-13, 30-13 and 30-21, dropping Bates to 7-22 overall and 0-8 in conference play.

First-year MB/OPP Caitlin Updike (Manhattan Beach, CA) recorded a match-high 11 kills along with eight digs to lead the Jumbos. Junior MB/OPP Kate Denniston (Tarzana, CA) added nine kills with no errors in 13 attempts, senior MB/OPP Katie Wysham (Spokane, WA) had eight kills and five blocks, and junior OH/OPP Stacy Filocco (Olney, MD) added 17 digs.

Sophomore OH Liz Leberman led the Bobcats with seven kills and 13 digs. Sophomore Elise Edmonson added eight digs, eight assists and three kills. Other Bates leaders included junior Beth Billington with three blocks and four kills and sophomore Brit Johnston with 10 digs.

Playing in their final home matches for Bates, senior co-captains Brittany Clement contributed eight assists and four digs, and Jenn Linton had two kills and two service aces.

Tufts will play Bowdoin at Amherst College on Friday at 8 p.m. Bates is at Amherst on Saturday at 12 pm.
