|Maya Ripecky led Tufts defensively against
Wesleyan with 20 digs
AMHERST -- The Tufts University volleyball team
completed a successful weekend in NESCAC wtih a 3-0 victory over
Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon at Amherst College. Coupled
with a 3-0 victory over Trinity on Friday night, the Jumbos are now 3-3
in the league and 11-11 overall. Wesleyan fell to 13-5 and 4-3 in NESCAC.
The Jumbos won by game scores of 32-30, 30-22 and 30-22.
It was their third straight win overall after three straight losses, so
the team could be hitting its stride at just the right time.
First-year Dawson Joyce-Mendive (Minden, NV) had
a terrific match offensively against Wesleyan, recording 17 kills and
just five errors in 36 attempts. Tufts hit at a good percentage overall
with senior captain Katie Wysham (Spokane, WA) finishing with 10
kills and three errors in 25 attempts and junior Kate Denniston
(Tarzana, CA) making just one error with eight kills in 17 attempts.
Sophomore Dena Feiger (Long Grove, IL) had 37 assists in three
games. On defense, junior Maya Ripecky (Chicago, IL) led Tufts
with 20 digs and classmate Stacy Filocco (Olney, MD) did not have
any errors in 22 passing attempts, to go with nine digs.
For the Cardinals, Lisa Drennan had 20 kills on offense and 15 digs
defensively. Senior co-captain Becca Rodger also played a good
two-way match with six kills and 16 digs. Sophomore setter Ellika
Healy had 33 assists in three games and junior Anna Williams served
up three aces.
Tufts plays its last home match on Tuesday night
against NESCAC foe Connecticut College at Cousens Gym. It will be
the last home match for Tufts seniors Wysham and Stephanie Viola
(Getzville, NY), who is injured this year.
