MEDFORD -- Tufts and Middlebury were tied 1-1 after two games in their NESCAC volleyball match on Sunday at Cousens Gymnasium, but the Panthers had the legs to earn a 3-1 victory over the Jumbos. Tufts had played Amherst at Cousens on Saturday, while Middlebury last played on Friday against Colby-Sawyer.

The Jumbos dropped to 8-11 overall and 1-2 in NESCAC. The loss was their third straight and fifth in six games. Middlebury (10-6 overall) moved up to fifth place in the league with a 2-1 mark. The Panthers won their second in a row and third out of the last four.

Junior Stacy Filocco (Olney, MD) had a strong day for the Jumbos, hitting .293 on offense with 15 kills and just three errors in 41 attempts. She also had 25 digs and two block assists. Senior captain Katie Wysham (Spokane, WA) also reached double-figures in kills (10) and was again a force at the net defensively with five solo blocks and three assists for eight total. Junior Maya Ripecky (Chicago, IL) was solid on defense with 18 digs and just one error in 22 passing attempts.

The Jumbos will look to get back on track with a non-conference match at Brandeis on Tuesday before heading to Amherst next weekend for conference matches against Trinity and Wesleyan.
