Stacy Filocco played well offensively and defensively during the Jumbo victory

WENHAM -- Junior Stacy Filocco (Olney, MD) finished the night with 11 kills and 18 digs while first-year Dawson Joyce-Mendive (Minden, NV) recorded 14 kills and 13 digs as the Tufts volleyball team rolled to a three-game non-conference victory at Gordon College on Tuesday night.

The Jumbos (3-5) led early in the first game, 8-6, before Fighting Scots sophomore setter Kaylie McCallister (Pacific Palisades, CA) served four straight points, including one ace, to give the Scots a 10-8 advantage. With the score knotted at 12 aside, Tufts senior middle hitter Katie Wysham (Spokane, WA) served five straight points, with the help of two kills from Filocco to give the visitors a 17-12 advantage. The Scots would get no closer than three from that point as the Jumbos took game one by a score of 30-24.

The second game was one-sided in favor of the Jumbos as they took a 12-6 lead following a pair of aces from Joyce-Mendive. Following a pair of aces and three attack errors on the Fighting Scots side of the net, Tufts had a 16-8 lead which soon was a 24-12 advantage as the visitors went on to take the second game 30-19.

Game three was a much more competitive affair as Gordon sophomore outside hitter Meredith Phipps (New Hartford, NY earned a kill half-way through the game to make it a 17-16 in favor of Tufts. Following the timeout, Joyce-Mendive collected a pair of kills and served three straight points to give Tufts a four point cushion, 22-18. Filicco then earned her game-high 12th kill of the match to put the Jumbos up 24-18. GC came back within two at 26-24 as junior middle hitter Kayla Schnell (Methuen, Mass.) tallied a kill, but they would come no closer than two as Tufts took the game (30-27) and the match.

The setting duo of junior Kaitlin O'Reilly (Manhattan Beach, CA) and sophomore Dena Feiger (Long Grove, IL) had 21 and 18 assists, respectively. Filocco also added four aces to her performance. Gordon College junior setter Kristen Klein (San Fernando, Calif.) tallied 22 set assists to lead the Fighting Scots, who also had a game-high 17 digs from sophomore libero Leah Chamberlain (Canton, Mass.) led the game with 17 digs.
