MEDFORD -- The Williams College volleyball team improved to 2-0 in NESCAC with a three-game victory over Tufts University in conference action on Friday night before an enthusiastic Jumbo crowd at Cousens Gymnasium.

The Ephs managed to stay a step ahead of the Jumbos in the first two games, winning by scores of 30-24 and 30-25. They then closed the match with a decisive 30-14 victory in the third game. The Ephs remain undefeated at 5-0 overall with the victory. Tufts falls to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

Williams was terrific on defense especially this evening. Leading the squad in digs with 17 was sophomore Melissa Pun (San Francisco, CA), while sophomore Andrea Sciosia (Gibsonia, PA) finished with 15. First-year Nicole Ballon-Landa (LaJolla, CA) contributed on both sides of the net with 13 kills and four blocks, while sophomore Chelsea Kubal (Atherton, CA) had 12 kills.

The Jumbos were led offensively by junior Stacy Filocco (Olney, MD) with 10 kills, while senior captain Katie Wysham (Spokane, WA) and sophomore Brogie Helgeson (Santa Cruz, CA) each had seven. Wysham and Helgeson also had four block assists apiece on defense, while junior Natalie Goldstein (Piedmont, CA) took her usual spot as the team's digs leader with 15.

The Jumbos continue NESCAC play at home tomorrow against Hamilton College beginning at noon. Williams travels to nearby Brandeis University for matches against Bridgewater State and the Judges at 1:00 and 3:00 pm, respectively.
