CAMBRIDGE -- The Tufts University women's outdoor track & field team competed at the MIT Spring Invitational on Saturday in the final meet before the beginning of the championship season next weekend. The Jumbos earned eight victories on Saturday, including five in the field events.

Tufts dominated the field events, in which a few consisted of short fields. Senior Logan Crane (Portland, ME), who also won the 100 meters in 12.93 seconds, was first in the long jump at 15'11" (4.85m). She led a field of 15 in the 100.

Junior Kelly Engelking's (Westborough, MA) 108'5" (33.05m) javelin throw was first out of eight at the meet. First year Kelly Allen (Norton, MA) was a double winner, with the best performances in the discus throw (132'6"/40.38m) and in the shot put (39'5"/12.01m). In the triple jump, Tufts junior Kanku Kabongo (Abington, MA) was first at a 35'2 1/2" (10.73m) length.

The Jumbos were also at the front of two three-team relays. The 4x100 group of senior co-captain Andrea Ferri (Dracut, MA), sophomore Dayorsha Collins (Boston, MA), Kabongo, and Crane ran 50.64 seconds. Ferri then anchored the 4x400 relay with sophomore Kayley Pettoruto (Andover, MA), first year Sam Bissonnette (Bridgewater, MA), and sophomore Sarah Boudreau (Sherborn, MA) that went 4:10.38 to win.

Tufts University's Dussault Track is the site of the 2010 NESCAC Championships next Saturday (Apr. 24).
