Senior Logan Crane won the 200 meters by 0.07

LOWELL -- First year thrower Kelly Allen (Norton, MA) continued her fine outdoor season with a personal-best discus throw and three top three finishes at the George Davis Invitational hosted by the University of Massachusetts Lowell on Saturday. The meet was non-scoring, and the hammer throw is still to be contested on Sunday.

Last week in the discus, Allen's 138'10" (42.32m) was a new Tufts record and NCAA provisional qualifier. Today at Lowell, she launched the discus almost three feet further to 141'9" (43.20m), extending her school record and NCAA mark while placing second at the meet. She was also third in the shot put, with a best ball of 39'5 1/4" (12.02m), and third in the javelin throw (118'9"/36.20m).

The Jumbos won two events on Saturday. Senior Logan Crane (Portland, ME) edged UMass Lowell's Amy Delgado at the finish line in the 200 meters, recording a winning time of 26.59 seconds. Junior Amy Wilfert (Westborough, MA) crossed the finish line first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking a 11:26.21 time.

Allen's effort in the discus was one of four runner-up finishes for Tufts. Pole vault record-holder and national qualifier Heather Theiss (North Woodmere, NY) was second with a best of 10'11" (3.33m). Junior Kanku Kabongo (Abington, MA) reached 17'3 1/2" (5.27m), the second-best length in the long jump. The 4x100 sprint relay team of senior co-captain Andrea Ferri (Dracut, MA), sophomore Dayorsha Collins (Boston, MA), Kabongo, and Crane were the runners-up in 50.70 seconds.

The Jumbos are scheduled to compete at Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational, and at the MIT Invitational next weekend (Apr. 16-17). The championship season begins after that, with Tufts hosting the NESCAC and New England Division III meets on consecutive weekends.
