Julia Feltus extended her own school record in the hammer throw

DEDHAM -- In her first outing of the 2010 outdoor season, senior Julia Feltus (Reading, MA) of the Tufts women's track & field team broke her own record in the hammer throw on Saturday at Northeastern University's Husky Spring Open.

With a best launch of 148'6" (45.27m), Feltus was eight inches further than her previous Tufts record of 147'10" (45.06m) set last year at the NESCAC meet. She was eighth overall at Northeastern, first among Division III competitors.

First-year thrower Kelly Allen (Norton, MA) also performed well during a busy day. She was fourth in both the shot put and discus throw. Her best discus effort of 134'8" (41.06m) was in the neighborhood of the NCAA provisional qualifying mark and the Tufts record. She had a best toss of 39'4" (11.99m) with the shot put ball. Allen also competed in the hammer throw.

Four Tufts team members in all were in action at Northeastern, while other Jumbos were in South Carolina at the Coastal Carolina Shamrock Invitational. The Husky Spring Open was not scored.
