CONWAY, S.C. -- On the Tufts University women's track & field team's
trip to South Carolina to start the 2010 outdoor season, senior
co-captain Andrea Ferri (Dracut, MA) provisionally qualified for
the NCAA Championships in the heptathlon and sophomore Heather Theiss
(North Woodmere, NY) set a new outdoor pole vault school record
at the Coastal Carolina Shamrock Invitational.
Ferri scored 4,219 points in the seven-event heptathlon, surpassing
the national provisional mark of 4,100. She finished sixth out of 23
competitors at the meet. Her time of 26.65 seconds scored 741 points in
the 200-meter run. Also topping 700 points (702) in the 800 meters, she
posted a 2:29.28 time.
Theiss had the best Tufts finish at the meet with her third in the
pole vault. She cleared the bar at 11'5 3/4" (3.5m), going beyond her
previous team record of 10'11 3/4" by six inches (3.35m). She is two
inches off the NCAA provisional standard of 11'7 3/4" (3.55m).
Among several other Jumbos who made the trip, sophomore Kayley
Pettoruto (Andover, MA) was 20th in the javelin throw with 105'3"
