CAMBRIDGE -- Sophomore Dayorsha Collins (Boston, MA) missed
the the NCAA Division III provisional mark in the high jump by a
quarter-inch in her return to action for the Tufts women's indoor track
& field team on Saturday at the MIT Invitational. That led the Jumbos'
effort at the non-scoring meet.
In her first meet of the year, Collins cleared 5'5" to place second
at the meet. The NCAA standard is 5'5 1/4". The day also featured a
versatile performance from junior Kanku Kabongo (Abington, MA),
who placed in the top three in three events. She won the long jump with
16'11 1/4" (5.16m) distance, was second in the 55-meter dash with a time
of 7.73 seconds, and was third in the triple jump with 34'11" (10.64)
length.
First year Kelly Allen (Norton, MA) continued her fine
collegiate debut in the shot put, throwing 40'3 1/4" (12.27m) to place
second in the event. Senior teammate Julia Feltus (Reading, MA)
had a 45'2 1/2" (13.78m) mark in the weight throw for sixth place.
Sophomore Heather Theiss (North Woodmere, NY) tied for fourth
in the pole vault, lifting herself over the bar at 10'5 1/2" (3.19m).
First-year Evelyn Orlando (Milton, MA) was also fourth at the
meet in the 3,000 meters, crossing the finish line in 11:16.18.
