Nakeisha Jones was 15 inches further in the
triple jump than anyone else in the rain

DEDHAM -- Competing in the rain on Saturday at Northeastern
University's annual Solomon Track & Field Invitational, Tufts
University's Steph McNamara (North Attleborough, MA) and
Nakeisha Jones (Boston, MA) still managed to produce NCAA
Championships provisional qualifying times. The meet was non-scoring.
McNamara improved her previous NCAA provisional time of 4:37.35 in
the 1,500 meters by running a 4:34.24 to win the event among 27 racers
at Northeastern. Jones was far ahead of the rest of the field with her
provisional mark of 37' 5 1/4" (11.41m) in the triple jump. Second-place
Consandria Walker of host Northeastern went a distance of 36' 2"
(11.02m).
Jumbo sophomore Amy Wilfert (Westborough, MA) topped a field
of 35 in the 800 meter run with a 2:20.58 time. Tufts first-year
Kayley Pettoruto (North Andover, MA) was second in the 800 with a
2:21.77 finish. First-year pole vaulter Heather Theiss (North
Woodmere, NY) also won for Tufts, clearing 10'3" (3.12m) to top a
16-person field.
Junior Logan Crane (Portland, ME) was first in a small field
in the 200 meter dash (26.93 seconds) and second in the 100 (13.16).
Junior Andrea Ferri (Dracut, MA) was edged at the finish line in
the 400 meter hurdles, recording a 1:08.54 runner-up finish. Senior
tri-captain Paula Dormon (Brockton, MA) was a solid second in the
shot put with her 39' 5 1/4" (12.02m) best heave.
Coach Kristen Morwick's team competes at MIT next Saturday in the
last meet before the start of the championship season.
