CAMBRIDGE -- The Tufts University women's indoor track & field
team split the squad to compete at Boston University and at MIT on
Saturday. Both meets were not scored.
The Jumbo group that went to MIT was led by senior tri-captain
Paula Dormon (Brockton, MA) in the throws. For the shot put, she was
third overall with a distance of 40' 3/4" (12.21m). In the weight throw,
she approached the Tufts record with her 45'7 3/4" heave (13.91m). The
Tufts mark is 46'4 3/4" set in 2007 by Sarah Martin. Dormon was eighth
at MIT.
Coach Kristen Morwick's team also received a strong double
performance in the long and triple jumps from sophomore Kanku Kabongo
(Abington, MA). She was fifth in the triple with 34'10 1/4" (10.62m)
distance and sixth in the long jump at 16'2 1/2" (4.94m).
In the pole vault, Tufts record-holding first-year Heather Theiss
(North Woodmere, NY) was just shy of 11 feet again with her final
mark of 10'11 1/2" (3.34m) for fourth place.
Tufts begins the championship season next weekend (Feb. 20-21) at
Bowdoin when they defend their indoor New England Division III title.
