BOSTON -- As usual on the fast banked track at Boston University,
the Tufts women's indoor track & field team had an outstanding day
at the annual Valentine Invitational on Saturday. The performance of
the distance medley relay, which recorded an NCAA provisional
qualifying time of 12:08.69 converted (12:06.19), led the way.
The Jumbo foursome of sophomore Amy Wilfert
(Westborough, MA),
senior Halsey Stebbins (Chicago, IL), senior tri-captain Jackie Ferry (Studio
City, CA) and sophomore Stephanie McNamara (North Attleborough, MA)
and composed the DMR, which currently ranks sixth
nationally with their time on Saturday.
McNamara with a 4:58.27 in the mile run and first-year Nakeisha
Jones (Boston, MA) with a 39'2 1/2" (11.95m) triple jump were also
better than their respective NCAA provisional marks, but did not surpass
their NCAA qualifying performances from earlier in the season. McNamara
was 13th at the competitive BU meet and Jones was fourth.
In the 200 meters, junior Logan Crane (Portland, ME) missed
the school record by a tenth of a second with her time of 25.60 seconds.
The all-time best Tufts indoor 200 is 25.59 by Jessica Trombly in 2004.
Crane was also a part of the 4x4 that ran a season's best time of
4:01.15. Sophomore Andrea Caruth (Vauxhall, NJ) led off the
group, followed by Crane, sophomore Kaylee Maykranz (Jackson, WY)
and Stebbins. They were 13th at the meet.
Caruth also had a top 20 effort (18th) in the 500 meter dash with a
1:19 flat. Jones was 23rd overall in the 55-meter hurdles, finishing in
8.87 seconds.
Members of the Tufts team also competed at MIT on Saturday.
