CAMBRIDGE -- Led by runner-up performances from senior Katy O'Brien
(North Easton, MA) and first-year Stephanie McNamara
(Northborough, MA), the Tufts women's indoor track & field team took
ninth place out of over 50 teams at the ECAC Division III Championships
hosted at Harvard University on Friday and Saturday.
O'Brien was second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:14.88.
Converted due to the banked track at Harvard, the 2:15.38 time will be
"on the bubble" towards earning O'Brien a spot in the NCAA Championship
meet field. McNamara's second place at the ECAC's came in the 1,000
meters with a 2:56.49 time. First-year Amy Wilfert (Westborough, MA)
was sixth behind McNamara in 3:01.60.
One team record was also broken at the meet, as first-year pole vaulter
Allison Fechter (Haddonfield, NJ) cleared 10'6 3/4". That just
surpassed the previous mark of 10'6" by Myriam Claudio in 2003.
Fechter's effort tied for 12th place at the meet.
Sophomore Logan Crane (Portland, ME), a likely NCAA qualifier,
ran 7.24 seconds in the 55 meter dash for fourth place. First-year
Sarah Nolet (Los Altos, CA) scored third out of seven in the
pentathlon (2,938 points). She won the shot put portion of the
multi-event with a 32'7" toss (9.93m). The 4x4 relay was fourth
(4:01.94) and first-year Andrea Caruth (Vauxhall, NJ) placed
eighth in the 500 meters in a 1:19.80 time.
Coach Kristen Morwick's Jumbos scored 35.5 points overall.
