Nine-time All-American Cat Beck
|
OSHKOSH, Wisc. -- Tufts University senior co-captain Cat Beck (Brookline, NH)
finished second in both the 1,500 meters and in the 5,000 meters at
the 2008 NCAA Division 3 Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships
hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Thursday through Saturday.
With the two All-American performances, Beck concluded her illustrious
Jumbo career with nine total All-American awards (five outdoors, four
indoors).
Beck ran a school-record time of 4:24.97 in the 1,500 meters on
Saturday, but it wasn't quite fast enough to defeat Marcia Taddy of
Wisconsin Platteville. She won the race with a 4:23.36 time. Beck broke
her own Tufts record of 4:27.58 set last season. Tufts first-year
Stephanie McNamara (North Attleborough, MA) was also an All-American
in the 1,500, running 4:32.03 for eighth place. It is her second
All-American honor of the season.
Tufts senior Katy O'Brien (North Easton, MA) was tenth in the
1,500-meter race (4:35.39). Beck and O'Brien had run the the two fastest
times in the preliminaries of the 1,500-meter run on Thursday at 4:30.62
and 4:30.71, respectively.
Approximately two and a half hours after finishing the 1,500 meters
on Saturday afternoon, Beck competed in the 5,000 meters and was second
with a 16:54.54 time. That was two seconds behind national champion
Becca Jordahl (16:52.49).
With 17 points scored, Tufts placed 17th at the meet. That's the
third time in the last four NCAA Championships (indoors and outdoors)
that Tufts has scored among the top 20 teams.
