SPRINGFIELD -- The Tufts University women's outdoor track & field team scored 16 points at the 2008 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships hosted by Springfield College on Thursday and Friday. The Jumbos now await official word on NCAA Championship entries, due on Sunday.

First-year Sarah Nolet (Los Altos, CA) was the highest scoring Jumbo at the ECAC competition. She took third in the heptathlon scoring 4,074 points after winning both the javelin and 800-meter run among the seven events. Sophomore Andrea Ferri (Dracut, MA) won the 200 meters portion of the heptathlon and scored 3,919 points for seventh place.

First-year Stephanie McNamara (North Attleborough, MA) ran 4:37.99 in the 1,500 meters for fourth place. The 4x100 relay foursome of senior Jenna Weir (New York, NY), senior co-captain Kaleigh Fitzpatrick (Lynnfield, MA), Ferri and sophomore Logan Crane (Portland, ME) was seventh in 49.43 seconds. Weir also had an eighth-place finish in the long jump at 16'10 3/4" (5.15m).

Senior co-captain Cat Beck (Brookline, NH) qualified for the NCAA Championships in three events and it's only a matter of which among the 800, 1,500 and 5,000 she will compete in. Classmate Katy O'Brien (North Easton, MA) is well positioned in the 1,500 and McNamara also seems likely to qualify in that event. The NCAA's are in Oshkosh, Wisconsin next Thursday through Saturday (May 22-24).
