CAMBRIDGE -- Three members of the Tufts women's outdoor track & field
team put down NCAA qualifying times at the 2008 MIT Spring Invitational
on Saturday. The non-scoring meet was the last of the regular season
before the Jumbos begin the championships at NESCAC's next week.
Sophomore Logan Crane (Portland, ME), senior Katy O'Brien
(North Easton, MA) and first-year Stephanie McNamara (North
Attleborough, MA) were the top performing Jumbos at MIT. Crane won
the 100 meter dash in 12.29 seconds, which was within the 12.35
provisional standard for NCAA's. O'Brien and McNamara went 1-2 in the
1,500 meters, with their 4:38.50 and 4:39.33 times, respectively, both
faster than 4:40 NCAA mark.
Tufts also doubled in the relays, with both the 4x100 and 4x400
foursomes winning. The 4x1 of Jenna Weir (New York, NY), senior
co-captain Kaleigh Fitzpatrick (Lynnfield, MA), sophomore
Andrea Ferri (Dracut, MA) and Crane ran 50.36 seconds. The 4x4,
consisting of Andrea Caruth (Vauxhall, NJ), O'Brien, McNamara and
Aubrey Wasser (Richmond, VT), won in 4:10.05.
The Jumbos had five victories at the MIT meet overall, with
first-year Kanku Kabongo (Abington, MA) reaching 36'1 1/2"
(11.01m) to win the triple jump. Classmate Rosanna Xia (Acton, MA)
was second in the triple with 33'2" (10.11m) distance. Crane and
Fitzpatrick also had individual seconds, Crane in the long jump at 17'4
3/4" (5.3m) and Fitzpatrick in the 200 (25.74 seconds). Junior Paula
Dormon (Brockton, MA) was also a runner-up in the shot put, tossing
the big ball 36'11 3/4" (11.27m).
Coach Kristen Morwick's team will travel to Hamilton College in
Clinton, New York for the NESCAC meet next Saturday.
