BOSTON -- The Tufts University women's indoor track & field team added
three NCAA provisionally qualifying performances to its arsenal on
Friday at the BU Valentine Invitational. Senior co-captain Kaleigh
Fitzpatrick (Lynnfield, MA), senior Katy O'Brien (North Easton,
MA) and the distance medley relay all hit NCAA marks.
Fitzpatrick finished the 400 meters in 57.93 seconds, which even when
converted because of BU's banked track should be within the NCAA
Division III provisional mark of 58.7 seconds. She was 18th out of 100
runners in the race. O'Brien's 2:15.94 in the 800 meters when converted
should also be faster than the NCAA mark of 2:16.90. She was 20th out of
141 in her event.
The DMR ran 11:59.12, again well within the 12:17 NCAA
mark in the event after it is converted. They were 11th at the meet.
First-year Steph McNamara (North Attleborough, MA) led off with a 1,200m
followed by classmate Andrea Caruth (Vauxhall, NJ) in the 400, then
first-year Amy Wilfert (Westborough, MA) for the 800), and O'Brien
anchoring at 1,600m. All four ran PR's at their respective distances.
McNamara also had a
time of 5:05.50 in the mile that was close to the NCAA provisional mark
and 23rd at the meet. Sophomore Logan Crane (Portland, ME) made
the final out of 93 entrants in the 55-meter dash and ran 7.41 seconds
for 15th place.
Jen Toomey, a 1994 Tufts graduate and owner of multiple U.S. indoor
titles, ran at the meet and won the 500 meters with a 1:13.81 time.
