MEDFORD -- There was no place like home for the Tufts women's indoor track & field team on Saturday, when they dominated the 14-team Tufts Invitational II at the Gantcher Center. Tufts scored 160 points, far ahead of the rest of the competition. Regular Gantcher visitors UMass Lowell took second place with 124 points. Springfield and Wheaton were third and fourth, respectively.

Tufts got an exciting performance from sophomore Logan Crane (Portland, ME), who won the 55 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. Her time of 7.32 seconds in the final of the 55 matched  the NCAA provisional qualifying time and was just .04 away from the school record owned by Tufts track legend Vera Stenhouse (7.28 in 1991). Crane's winning time in the 200 was 26.03 seconds.

Senior co-captain Cat Beck (Brookline, NH) led a 1-2 Jumbo finish in the mile run with an NCAA provisional time of 4:58.86. She was followed by senior teammate Katy O'Brien (North Easton, MA), who crossed the finish line in 5:06.15. Freshman Stephanie McNamara (North Attleborough, MA) was fourth in 5:09.84 as the long distance Jumbos dominated the race.

Beck doubled with a win in the 1,000 meters (2:56.16). In the 600 meters, senior co-captain Kaleigh Fitzpatrick (Lynnfield, MA) raced 1:38.76 to win. O'Brien also had a second place in the 800 meters in 2:19.96 time. The relays produced a victory with a distance medley time of 12:44.94.

In the field events, Jumbos went 1-2 in the pole vault. First-year Allison Fechter (Haddonfield, NJ) won the event and cleared 9'6 1/4". Junior Jenn Johnson (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA) was second with a 9'0 1/4" mark. Likewise, the weight throwers also gave the Jumbos good points with a 2-3 finish. Senior Sarah Martin (Woonsocket, RI) was the runner-up with a 44'2 3/4" toss and junior Paula Dormon (Brockton, MA) had a 43'8 1/2" heave for third place.

Tufts will run next weekend at BU, the site of many of their best indoor times in recent years.
