OSHKOSH, Wisc. -- Junior Cat Beck (Brookline, NH)
showed her unique versatility at the 2007 NCAA Division III Women's
Outdoor Track & Field Championships by running All-American times in the
1,500 and 5,000 meters at the meet hosted by the University of
Wisconsin-Oshkosh. With the eight points scored by Beck, Tufts tied for
34th place at the meet. The host Titans won the national championship
with 57 points.
More impressively, Beck ran in both finals on Saturday
within hours of each other. She was fourth in the 1,500 meters final at
1:30 pm CST with a time of 4 minutes, 27.58 seconds. That is a new
school record, breaking the 4:29 time she set last year when she was the national runner-up in the 1,500 meters
at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Tufts senior tri-captain Sarah Crispin (Auburn, ME)
also ran in the 1,500 final, placing 10th with a time of 4:38.65.
Tufts joined the University of Wisconsin-Platteville as the two schools
in the country that placed two runners in the 1,500 top 10. Beck and
Crispin had both qualified for the 1,500 final on Thursday with 4:31.28
and 4:31.77 times, respectively.
Then in the second-to-last event of the meet at 4:45 pm
on Saturday, Beck completed the 5K in 17:11.69 for sixth place. With the
two All-American efforts this spring, Beck now has five in her career.
Four have come in individual races and the other is in a relay.
