MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- The Tufts University women's outdoor track & field
team took third place at the 2007 NESCAC Championships on Saturday. The
Williams College women won their seventh consecutive NESCAC title and
their 11th in the last 13 years at the Allan Dragone Track & Field
Complex on the campus of Middlebury College. Williams finished with 201
points, followed by the host school from Middlebury (147.5), Tufts
(102), Bowdoin (88) and Amherst (79).
Tufts was led by first-place performances from junior Cat Beck
(Brookline, NH) and the 4x100 meter relay, along with two-time
runner up Kaleigh Fitzpatrick (Lynnfield, MA). Beck won the 1,500
meters in 4 minutes, 35.28 seconds, edging Amherst's Shauneen Garrahan.
Beck's time is an NCAA provisional qualifier and was her second straight
conference championship in the event.
The 4x1 team of first-year Logan Crane (Portland, ME),
Fitzpatrick, first-year Andrea Ferri (Dracut, MA) and senior
Jess Mactas (New Canaan, CT) finished in 49.36 seconds to win by a
quarter of a second over Williams. Fitzpatrick also ran to second-place
finishes in both the 200 meters (26.15 seconds) and the 400 meters
(59.04 seconds).
Other runner-up efforts for Tufts included junior Joyce Uang
(Medford, MA) in the high jump with 5 foot, 1 inch clearance. The
4x800 relay was also second in 9:27.63.
