Results NEW LONDON,
Conn. -- The Tufts University women's outdoor track & field team won the
Coast Guard Invitational on Saturday with a score of 201 points. Host
Coast Guard scored 150 points, and the rest of the 10-team field was
well behind.
The Jumbos were led by a double-win from junior Cat
Beck (Brookline, NH). She was first in the 800 meters with a time of
2 minutes, 18.32 seconds. In the 1,500 meters, she just missed the NCAA
provisional qualifying time of 4:40.20 with a 4:40.66 finish to win that
race.
Beck was also part of the team's win the 4x400 relay.
The Tufts "A" team of junior Kaleigh Fitzpatrick (Lynnfield, MA),
Beck, junior Joyce Uang (Medford, MA) and junior Anna Shih
(Pittsford, NY) won by more than five seconds with their time of
4:14.07. Though Tufts didn't score in the 4x100 relay, they had the best
time. The Tufts "A" team disqualified, but the "B" squad of junior
Jenna Weir (New York, NY), sophomore Aubrey Wasser (Richmond, VT),
first-year Andrea Ferri (Dracut, MA) and sophomore Paula
Dorman (Brockton, MA) ran 51.91 seconds. However, only one relay
foursome per school can score in each race. The Tufts "A" group was
designated upon entering the meet, so the "B" team could not get the 10
points for winning.
Dorman, in a show of speed and power for the day, also
won the shot put with a distance of 36 feet, 11 inches. Other Tufts
winners were Fitzpatrick in the triple jump (34' 11") and sophomore
Susan Allegretti (Crown Point, IN) in the 3,000 meter steeplechase
(12:22.64).
