Championship Results

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Despite resting several top athletes and sending a team of just 15 competitors to the ECAC Division III Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships, the Tufts Jumbos scored 30 points and took seventh place. Wesleyan University hosted the meet on Friday and Saturday.

The Jumbos got 10 points for winning the 4x200 meter relay in 1 minute, 46.84 seconds on Friday. That edged the foursome from Brockport State that ran a 1:47 flat for second place. It was a tight race overall, with fourth-place Springfield College finishing in 1:47.11. The Tufts foursome was sophomore Aubrey Wasser (Richmond, VT), sophomore Halsey Stebbins (Chicago, IL), senior Jess Mactas (New Canaan, CT) and freshman Andrea Ferri (Dracut, MA). It was the fourth relay title of the championship season for the Jumbos, following 4x4 and 4x2 wins at the New England Division III meet and an impressive distance medley relay victory at the Open New England Championships (all divisions) last week.

Senior tri-captain Sarah Crispin (Auburn, ME) provided Saturday's highlight by running a 2:15.66 in the 800 meters, which took second at the meet and is an NCAA provisional qualifying time. Also on Saturday, the Jumbo 4x400 relay was also ECAC runner-up, timing 4:00.57, just a nose behind College of New Jersey's 4:00.02.

Tufts also got a fifth place effort in the shot put from sophomore Paula Dormon (Brockton, MA). Her best toss of 40 feet, 4 inches scored four points for Tufts.

The Jumbos will now wait to see how many athletes qualify for the 2007 NCAA Division III Championships to be hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, IN next weekend (Mar. 9-10).
