Sarah Crispin ran an NCAA provisionally qualifying time in the mile at BU

BOSTON -- The Tufts University women's indoor track & field team split its squad on Saturday, sending some to Boston University's St. Valentine Invitational, and others to the MIT Invitational. The BU meet features collegiate competition from Divisions I, II and III along with professional and amateur entries as well.

The Jumbos had some great performances at BU. Senior tri-captain Sarah Crispin (Auburn, ME) qualified for the NCAA Championships provisionally in the mile, running 4 minutes, 57.34 seconds to place 11th at the meet. That was a six-second that puts her second on the all-time list at Tufts, and also in New England Division III this season. She ranked behind teammate Cat Beck (Brookline, NH) in both. Crispin's time is currently fourth in the nation.

Junior Katy O'Brien (North Easton, MA) smashed Crispin's school record in the 1000 meters, running 2:55.73 (previous record 2:59). Coming back from an achilles injury, O'Brien finished fourth overall at BU, coming out of the 3rd heat, despite just three work-outs this season due to the injury.

Several other Jumbos ran season bests or PRs. The 200 meter group had Junior Kaleigh Fitzpatrick (Lynnfield, MA) timing 26.35 seconds, freshman Andrea Ferri (Dracut, MA) finishing in 26.84 seconds, sophomore Halsey Stebbins (Chicago, IL) crossing the finish line in 26.98 seconds and senior Jess Mactas (New Canaan, CT) recording a time of 27.35 seconds.

The 4x4 ran a season best of 3:59.73 with Fitzpatrick, sophomore Jackie Ferry (Studio City, CA), Crispin, and Ferri. Sophomore Aubrey Wasser (Richmond, VT) ran an indoor PR in the 400 meters (1:00.96), while sophomore Susan Allegretti (Crown Point, IN) and senior tri-captain Kate Makai (Brookfield, CT) ran season best and personal bests in the 1000 meters with 3:07.18 and 3:07.62 times, respectively.
