BOSTON -- Running on the banked track at Boston University, Tufts
junior Cat Beck (Brookline, NH) broke her own team 5,000 meter
run indoor record with a time of 16 minutes, 42.23 seconds on Friday
afternoon.
Running her first 5,000 of the season, Beck placed seventh in the
elite 5k championship race at BU and broke her own school record by 27
seconds. The time qualifies her automatically for the NCAAs and is the
fastest 5k in the country right now.
Then on Saturday at BU, Beck anchored the distance medley relay,
running a 4:59 mile and leading the team to a second place finish in
12:00.53. That is the second fastest time in Tufts history in that event
and the fastest DMR in the country at the moment. Joining beck in that
relay were senior tri-captain Sarah Crispin (Auburn, ME) in the
1,200 leg, junior Kaleigh Fitzpatrick (Lynnfield, MA) in the 400
leg and sophomore Jackie Ferry (Studio City, CA) in the 800 leg.
Several other runners were also in action for Tufts at the Terrier
Invitational. Sophomore Halsey Stebbins (Chicago, IL) led a
five-woman Jumbo contingent that raced in the 200 meter dash with a time
of 27.08 seconds. Crispin
led a group of four Jumbos in the mile with a 5:09.09 finish. Classmate
and fellow captain Kate Makai (Brookfield, CT) was 14th in the
500 meter dash in 1:22.84 time.
The 4x4, which placed eighth with a 4:01.3 finish, was Fitzpatrick,
Ferry, Aubrey Wasser (Richmond, VT) and freshman Andrea Ferri
(Dracut, MA). Sophomore Katie Rizzolo (Franklin, MA) also ran
a big PR (of over 20 seconds) in the 5k with an 18:20.04 time,
qualifying her for the All-New England Championships.
