PHILADELPHIA - Sophomore Cat Beck (Brookline, NH) broke Nancy Benson's 18-year old school record in the 5k (16:54.43) by placing fourth in the Olympic Development 5k on Thursday night at the Penn Relays with a blistering time of 16 minutes, 51.04 seconds. Beck's previous outdoor best was 18:22 and her new time puts her at #2 in the nation right now behind Keene State's Breanne Lucey.
Senior tri-captain Becca Ades (Shelburne, VT) ran a 30-second outdoor PR in the same race, finishing 19th running 17:49.74 (previous best 18:21). She missed the NCAA provisional time by three seconds. The time places her third on the Tufts all-time list, right behind cross country/track All-American Leslie Crofton.
"It was a great race for both of them, especially in a tough competitive environment like the Penn Relays," said Coach Kristen Morwick. "It was their first time racing there and they did great."
