Trinity "Last Chance" Meet
At New Haven, CT (Yale University)
Friday, March 3, 2006
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Taking advantage of what the meet was offering - a "last chance" to qualify for the NCAA Championships - the Tufts University women's indoor track 4x400 meter relay foursome ran a time of 3 minutes, 57.37 seconds at the Trinity "Last Chance" meet hosted by Yale University on Friday night. That time got them into next weekend's national meet as the 10th and final entry.
The foursome of sophomore Kaleigh Fitzpatrick (Lynnfield, MA), sophomore Joyce Uang (Medford, MA), freshman Jackie Ferry (Studio City, CA) and senior tri-captain Rachel Bloom (Sharon, MA) won the race at the Trinity meet. Sophomore Katy O'Brien (North Easton, MA) was also a winner in the "Last Chance" Meet in the 800 meters with a 2:15.19 finish that is her second-best and the third-best in Tufts history. Though it did not improve her qualifying time, she still made Nationals in the event.
Junior Sarah Crispin (Auburn, ME) ran an improved NCAA provisional time of 5:03.23 to place third in the Trinity meet. She qualified for Nationals with that performances, but she will forego competing in the event to be strong for the Distance Medley Relay group that also qualified. Sophomore Jenna Weir (New York, NY) earned two runner-up placements at the Trinity meet. She went 17 feet, 2 3/4 inches in the long jump and 35' 10 3/4" in the triple.
Jumbos all took thirds in the throwing events. Sophomore Sarah Martin (Woonsocket, RI) threw the weight 46' 2". That's a school record that replaces year-old mark of 45' 7 1/4" heaved by Jess Colby in this meet last year. Freshman Paula Dormon (Brockton, MA) had 39' 4" distance in the shot put
