Meet Results

MEDFORD -- The Tufts University women's indoor track & field team out-scored Division II UMass Lowell on Saturday in the third invitational hosted at the Gantcher Center. The Jumbos scored 157 points to win the 19-team meet, with second-place Lowell finishing at 153 points.

Sophomore Cat Beck (Brookline, NH) ran 10 minutes, 3.57 seconds in the 3000 meters for the second fastest time in New England this season and #2 on the all-time Tufts list. She won the race, with senior Arielle Aaronson (Somerville, NJ) finishing second in with a big PR of 10:37.73.

Sophomore Kaleigh Fitzpatrick (Lynnfield, MA), running in her first open 400 ever, ran a New England Division 1 qualifying time of 59.39 seconds to win the race. She also scored in the long and triple jumps, taking third in the triple at 34 feet, 10 1/4 inches.

Senior tri-captain Rachel Bloom (Sharon, MA) won the 600 meters, running 1:38.27 for fifth on all-time Tufts list and second in the region this year. Sophomore Katy O'Brien's (North Easton, MA) 2:19.31 for second place in the 800 qualifies her for the Division 1 New England's. The same thing happened for sophomore Laura Walls (Clarksville, MD) in the 1,000 meters with her 3:02.71 time. Senior Sarah Crispin (Auburn, ME) ran a 5:09.66 PR in the mile to win the race.

Tufts won both the 4x4 and 4x8 relays. The 4x4 of Bloom, freshman Jackie Ferry (Studio City, CA), junior Kate Makai (Brookfield, CT) and Crispin ran a 4:04.39 that is the fastest time by a Jumbo foursome this year. The 4x8 also ran the fastest Tufts time in the event this year with O'Brien, Walls, freshman Evelyn Sharkey (Brunswick, ME) and sophomore Anna Shih (Pittsford, NY) teaming up for a 9:36.47 finish.

In the field events, sophomore Joyce Uang (Medford, MA) had a huge PR in the high jump at 5' 3 3/4" to place second. Freshman Katrine Dermody (Erieville, NY) converted an excellent 9' 1" pole vault for fourth place and #2 on teh all-time Tufts list. Freshman Paula Dormon (Brockton, MA) threw another huge PR in the shot, 38' 10 1/2" for third place. Sophomore Sarah Martin (Woonsocket, RI) threw a season's best 37' 1" in the weight.

Tufts competes at Boston University and MIT next weekend prior to the start of the championship season at home on February 18 with the New England Division III meet.
