BRUNSWICK, Me. -- After a fire at Bowdoin's field house delayed the meet for a few hours, it was the Tufts University women's indoor track & field team that was hot at the meet. The Jumbos took first place out of five teams by scoring 176 points. Host Bowdoin was second with 172.5 points.

Sophomore Jenna Weir (New York, NY) won both the long and triple jumps. She reached 16 feet, 6 1/2 inches in the long jump and 34' 10 1/2" in the triple. Classmate Kaleigh Fitzpatrick (Lynnfield, MA) placed second in the triple by posting a 34' 8 1/4" best. She also won the 200 meters with a time of 26.56 seconds.

Sophomore Katy O'Brien (North Easton, MA) was first in the mile run with a time of 5 minutes, 12.88 seconds and also was second in the 800 meters in 2:21.67. Junior Sarah Crispin (Auburn, ME) ran 2:21.78 in the 800 meters for third place and big Tufts points in the event.

The Jumbos also got wins in the 600 meters, the 3,000 meters in and in the 4x400 meter relay. Senior Jackie Ferry (Studio City, CA) won the 600 in 1:41.42, senior tri-captain took first in the 3,000 with a 10:26.94 time and the 4x4 teamed up for a 4:06.77 win. That foursome was Aubrey Wasser (Richmond, CT), Joyce Uang (Medford, MA) Fitzpatrick and Ferry.

Tufts was runner-up six times total, including twice in the throwing events. Freshman Paula Dormon (Brockton, MA) heaved the shot put 37' 10 1/2" for second place and sophomore Sarah Martin (Woonsocket, RI) was second in the weight throw with a best of 41' 11 /14". They also took second in the distance medley relay to clinch the victory. The group of Evelyn Sharkey (Brunswick, ME), O'Brien, Kate Makai (Brookfield, CT) and Crispin ran 12:50.14.
