Meet Results
WATERVILLE, Me. -- Tufts University dominated the relay events at the 2005 NESCAC Championship meet hosted by Colby College on Saturday. The Jumbos won in both the 4x400 meter relay and the 4x800 meter relay to lead the way in compiling 126.5 points. Tufts placed second behind Williams College, which scored 211 points.
The Tufts foursome of junior Rachel Bloom (Sharon, MA), senior
Ayako Sawanobori (Arcadia, CA), freshman Mackenzie Rawcliffe (Winterport, ME) and sophomore
Sarah Crispin (Auburn, ME) combined to finish the 4x4 in 4 minutes, 5.75 seconds, right ahead of the Williams team. The 4x8 group of freshman
Anna Shih (Pittsford, NY), senior Katie Sheedy (Reading, MA), freshman
Cat Beck (Brookline, NH) and freshman Kate Makai (Brookfield, CT) ran 9:26.04 to win their race by almost 10 seconds. The Jumbos were also third in the 4x100 (50.17 seconds), for a total of 26 points in the relays.
Crispin was also an individual champion for Tufts, winning the 1,500 meter run in 4:45.60. Beck was close behind in 4:47.04 for third place. Bloom was the runner-up in both the 100 (13.14 seconds) and 200 (26.89 seconds) meters. Rawcliffe took third in the 100 meter hurdles with a 16.37 seconds finish, while senior
Jessica Gauthier (Saugus, MA) heaved the discus 40.6 meters to earn third place.
The Jumbos compete at the New England Division III Championships next weekend at Bates College.
