BRUNSWICK, Me. -- The Tufts women's indoor track & field team won big at Bowdoin on Saturday. In a quad meet hosted by the Polar Bears and including Tufts, Springfield and Gordon, the Jumbos scored a remarkable 270 points to win by 96.5 points. Second-place Bowdoin scored 173.5 points.
Among the top performances was that by freshman Catherine Beck (Brookline, NH) in the 3000 meters. She ran 10 minutes, 21.94 seconds for a 17-second PR. She also hit the New England Division 1 qualifying mark (10:26).
The Tufts jumpers scored big. The Jumbos went 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 in the triple jump, with both
Kaleigh Fitzpatrick (Lynnfield, MA) and Jenna Weir (New York, NY) jumping season PRs (35'6", 35'4") and taking first and second. Fitzpatrick also won the long jump (16'7"), with frosh
Ashley Lowe (Mystic, CT) in second place (15'9"). Tufts took 7 of the top 8 spots in that event. Sophomore
Sade Campbell (El Cajon, CA) won the high jump in 5'0".
Sophomore Rachel Bloom (Sharon, MA) had a solid day winning the 400 and 200, with the 200 mark (26.56 seconds) being her best this season (on a slow track at Bowdoin).
Claudia Clarke (Lynn, MA) and Kate Makai (Brookfield, CT) both ran well in the 600 meters, with Clarke winning in 1:41.50 to Makai's second-place 1:41.93. Freshman
Laura Walls (Clarksville, MD) made the New England Div. 1 qualifier in the 800 meters with a 2:19.38, and was just out-kicked at the line. Classmate
Katy O'Brien (North Easton, MA) walked away with the 1,000 meters, running 3:04, also an NE Div. 1 qualifier.
Freshman Kenzie Rawcliffe (Winterport, ME) won the hurdles in a college PR of 9.04 and ran a great leg in the 4x400m relay, which won in 4:08.04. Yet another freshman,
Anna Shih (Pittsford, NY) won the mile in 5:20.86. The 4x8 was also victorious, timing 9:51.20. Tufts won 12 events on Saturday, with freshman winning five of those.
Sophomore Jill Warner (Long Valley, NJ) had a PR in the 55 meters (7.59), and ran well in the 200. Senior thrower
Jess Colby (Medford, MA) set PRs in the shot put (36'6") and weight throw (43'4").
