Meet Results

MEDFORD -- The Tufts University women's indoor track & field team was far and away tops in its field at the second Tufts Invitational held at the Gantcher Center on Saturday. Head coach Kristen Morwick's team compiled 227.5 points, more than twice the 92 points scored by second-place Keene State College.

The Jumbos had multiple scorers in several events. In the 1000 meters, sophomore Sarah Crispin (Auburn, ME) and senior Katie Sheedy (Reading, MA) finished 2-3 behind All-American Shauneen Garrahan from Amherst. Crispin's mark of 3 minutes, 3.69 seconds and Sheedy's 3:04.64 finish both qualified for the Division 1 New England meet.

Tufts made a strong showing in the sprints. Sophomore Rachel Bloom (Sharon, MA) won the 200 meters in 26.81 seconds and was third in a close 55 meters (7.63 seconds). Sophomore Jillian Warner (Long Valley, NJ) took first in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.95. Four Jumbos scored in the 200 overall.

Senior Jess Colby (Medford, MA) had a good day in the throws, taking second in the weight throw (12.76 meters) and in the shot put (10.93m). Sophomore MacKenzie Rawcliffe (Winterport, ME) ran a college PR in the trials of the 55 hurdles, 9.08, and finished 3rd in final (9.17).

The team's freshmen against performed well. Katy O'Brien (North Easton, MA), Catherine Beck (Brookline, NH) and Laura Walls (Clarksville, MD) were second (5:12.75), third (5:12.98) and fifth (5:15.30) in the mile run. Walls came back to finish second in 800m (2:21.36). leading three Jumbos in the top four. Kaleigh Fitzpatrick (Lynnfield, MA) had a big day in the long jump (winning a 17 feet, 3 1/4 inches). She also took second in the 200 (27.01 seconds). Jenna Weir (New York, NY) was first in the triple jump at 34' 3". Marissa Pierce (Highland Park, IL) tied with sophomore Caroline Chow (Amherst, MA) for second in the pole vault . Both were trying the event for the first time and cleared 7' 6 1/2".

The Jumbo relays won the 4x200 (1:49.08) and took second in the distance medley (12:41.66).
