HARTFORD -- The Tufts University Women's Outdoor Track & Field team is the NESCAC runner-up after scoring 141.5 points at the conference championship meet hosted by Trinity College on Saturday. The Jumbos were well behind NESCAC champion Williams College's 247 points, but comfortably ahead of third-place Middlebury College's 118 points.
Two Jumbos won NESCAC championships. Freshman Sarah Crispin (Auburn, ME) won the 800 Meter Run in a time of 2 minutes, 17.56 seconds. Senior captain
Lauren Caputo (Belmont, MA) continued her outstanding season in the 3,000 Meter Steeplechase by winning in 11:21.96. She was followed in the event by sophomore
Becca Ades (Shelburne, VT) with an 11:29.76 time.
The tandem of sophomore Rachel Bloom (Sharon, MA) and Jillian Warner (Long Valley, NJ) scored big points in the sprints. Bloom was second (12.62 seconds) and Warner was third (12.78) in the 100 Meter Dash. Bloom was also second in the 200 (25.65) with Warner fourth (26.08).
Other Tufts runner-ups included senior captain Jessica Trombly (Nashua, NJ), who was second in the 400 meters in 59.06 seconds and second in the Long Jump with a best of 17 feet, 1 1/4 inches. The 4x100 meter relay was also second in 49.42 seconds.
Senior captain Emily Bersin (Orleans, MA) took third in the 400 Meter Hurdles (1:06.82), while junior
Melissa Graveley (Schenectady, NY) was third in the Javelin, tossing it 106 feet flat.
Tufts competes at the New England Division III Outdoor Championships hosted by Springfield College next weekend.
