WHITEWATER, Wisc. -- Four members of the Tufts University Women's Track and Field team finished second in the 4x400 Meter Relay at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships held at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Friday and Saturday. Senior captain Emily Bersin (Orleans, MA), sophomore Rachel Bloom (Sharon, MA), junior Sika Henry (Upper Montclair, NJ) and senior captain Jess Trombly (Nashua, NH) rebounded from a sub-par preliminary race to finish in 3 minutes, 53.45 seconds, behind Illinois Wesleyan's 3:52.36.

Coming into the meet with the second-fastest time in the country, the Jumbos had only the fifth-fastest time in the preliminary heats, putting them in the slower of the two final heats. Their time of 3:54.53 was only .06 seconds behind University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, the fourth-fastest team. Joined in the final heat by Illinois Wesleyan, the Jumbos ran a tough race start to finish, coming up just short in the end.

Henry and Trombly also competed in other events at the meet. Henry finished tied for ninth in the high jump, with her best jump a leap of 5 feet, 3 1/4 inches. Trombly ran in both the 55 Meter Hurdles and the 400 Meter Dash. In the 55 Hurdles she finished just .01 seconds out of the finals, running a time of 8.46 seconds to tie for ninth place. Then in the 400, held just 25 minutes after the 55 Hurdles started, Trombly's time of 58.30 missed the finals by .23 seconds. She finished tenth in the event.

The Jumbos earned eight points for their efforts in the relay, placing them tied for 23rd in the nation. NESCAC foes Bates and Amherst finished ahead of the Jumbos, finishing tied for third and tied for seventh, respectively.

Head Coach Kristin Morwick's team will now have some time off until the outdoor season begins on April 3rd with a meet at NESCAC opponent Trinity.
