Meet Results

NORTHAMPTON -- The Tufts University Women's Indoor Track & Field team competed on Saturday at the All-New England Championship Meet hosted by Smith College. After the excellent team effort at the Division III New England's last Saturday, this meet was more focused on individuals and relays improving their national qualifying times.

That mission was accomplished by junior Jess Trombly (Nashua, NH), who finished third in the 400 Meter Dash with a time of 56.47 seconds. That broke the team's 13-year old record of 56.79 seconds in the 400 set by legend Vera Stenhouse. It's also an NCAA automatic qualifying time. The 4x400 relay of sophomore Sika Henry (Upper Montclair, NJ), freshman Rachel Bloom (Sharon, MA), junior Emily Bersin (Orleans, MA) and Trombly ran a better NCAA provisional mark of 3 minutes, 57.97 seconds that puts the Jumbos eighth on the national list. They were fifth at the meet. Junior Lauren Caputo (Belmont, MA) also ran her best race this year as she came in 13th in the Mile Run with a time of 5:13.51.

Tufts competed in four relay races at the meet and finished in the top 12 for all of them. The Distance Medley relay - senior Danielle Perrin (Watertown, CT), junior Katie Higley (Raymond, ME), sophomore Katie Sheedy (Reading, MA) and Caputo - ran a season-best of 12:26.85 for 10th in a time that was more than 30 seconds faster than last week's. The 4x800 team's 9:37.54 finish was a season best compiled by Higley, freshman Daniela Fairchild (Somerset, MA), Perrin and Sheedy.

Bloom ran a PR in the 200 Meters with a time 26.31 seconds.
