BRUNSWICK -- The Tufts University Women's Indoor Track & Field team placed second out of 23 scoring teams on Saturday at Bowdoin College during the Division III New England Championships. NESCAC rival Williams College earned first place with 174.5 points, with 101 points Tufts took second, and Colby took third with 60.5 points. Rounding out the top five were Bowdoin and MIT. NESCAC schools took six out of the top ten places.

Scoring almost half of the Tufts points was junior sensation Jessica Trombly (Nashua, NH). A five time-winner for the day, Trombly dominated in sprints, hurdles, and jumps, competing against a very deep and talented pool of regional athletes. In the 200 Meter Dash Trombley won in 25.83 seconds. She blew away the competition in the 400 Meter Dash with a time of 57.70. In the 55 Meter Hurdles she edged out the victory with a time of 8.61 seconds. In the long jump she jumped almost seven inches more than the second place finisher with a best of 17 feet, 7 1/2 inches.

To top it off, Trombly anchored the Tufts' 4x400 Meter Relay, which won in a time of 4 minutes, 0.91 seconds. Junior Emily Bersin (Orleans, MA), sophomore Sika Henry (Upper Montclair, NJ), and freshman Rachel Bloom (Sharon, MA) also ran great legs for the relay. The 4x200 meter Relay team placed third with a time of 1:48.03 seconds. Bersin, junior Katie Higley (Raymond, ME/Westbrook), sophomore Claudia Clarke (Lynn, MA/ Lynn) and Bloom were that combination.

Junior Lauren Caputo (Belmont, MA) captured a victory in the 3,000 Meter Run with a time of 10:20.06, ten seconds faster than her seed time, and just 0.29 seconds faster than second place in an exciting race. Sophomore Melissa Graveley (Schenectady, NY) took fifth in the Pentathlon with 2,792 points.
